- What does the checker actually verify?
- The country code, the length for that country, the character type of each field and the two check digits (ISO 7064 mod 97). A number that passes is well-formed; only the beneficiary's bank can confirm the account exists.
- Does Egypt use IBANs?
- Yes, since 2020: 29 characters starting with EG, with a 4-digit bank code, 4-digit branch code and 17-digit account number.
- Why is Algeria missing?
- Algeria has not adopted the IBAN. Payments to Algerian accounts use the 20-digit RIB (bank, agency, account and key) together with the bank's SWIFT code.
- Can I send to any IBAN by SEPA?
- Only IBANs in SEPA countries, in euro. The checker shows a SEPA mark next to the country when that applies; other IBANs (Egypt, the Gulf, Morocco) are paid by SWIFT or a local route.
