What is a SWIFT/BIC code?
An 8- or 11-character code that identifies a bank (and optionally a branch) in international payments. BIC stands for Business Identifier Code; SWIFT is the network that assigns them. The two names are used interchangeably.
8 or 11 characters — which one do I use?
Both work. The 8-character code is the head office; the 11-character version adds a branch. If the beneficiary gave you 8 characters, we look it up with XXX added, which is what banks do too.
The format is right but the code is not found. Is it wrong?
Not necessarily. Our directory covers the banks on TrillioniPay corridors; a code outside it may still be valid. Confirm it with the beneficiary's bank before paying.
Is a SWIFT code the same as an IBAN?
No. The SWIFT code identifies the bank; the IBAN identifies the account. Most international payments need both.
