- Why do Egyptian and Saudi payments move on a Sunday?
- Banks in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Algeria close on Friday and Saturday and work on Sunday. A euro payment released on a Thursday afternoon can therefore wait until the following Monday, when both sides are open.
- What is a value date?
- The day the money is available in the beneficiary's account. It is later than the release date whenever a weekend, a holiday on either side, the correspondent bank's calendar or the rail's cut-off time gets in the way.
- Why does a US holiday delay a dirham payment?
- A SWIFT wire to a non-European currency usually settles through a US-dollar correspondent in New York. If Fedwire is closed, that leg waits, and so does the payment.
- How reliable are the Islamic holiday dates?
- They are announced on moon sighting and can shift by a day. We show the expected date and mark it as such; the confirmed dates are updated when each government announces them.
