EUR IBAN for businesses in Algeria

A company registered in Algeria can apply for a named EUR IBAN without opening a European company, but local exchange-control rules may require authorisation from the Banque d’Algérie first (see below). TrillioniPay provides a Lithuanian IBAN, starting with LT, in your company’s own name through a regulated partner in Lithuania, typically issued within 48 hours of approval. European customers pay it by SEPA, and you pay suppliers in any SEPA country from it the same way. Algeria is not in SEPA, so money you send home goes by SWIFT.

Documents you will need

  • Certificate of incorporation or a recent extract from the commercial register in Algeria
  • Memorandum and articles of association
  • Proof of the registered business address
  • Shareholder register or ownership chart, down to the ultimate beneficial owners
  • Passport or national ID, and proof of address, for each director and beneficial owner
  • A description of your business, main customers and suppliers, and expected monthly euro volumes

This is the usual KYB file; the exact list depends on how your company is structured, and we may ask for more. Some payments also need supporting documents, such as an invoice.

Letters stand for digits here; this is the layout, not an account. Your IBAN is issued in your company’s registered name, and it comes with the BIC European payers need.

How euros move in and out

SEPA

Receive from European customers

Customers in any SEPA country pay the LT IBAN as an ordinary euro transfer, typically arriving the same or next working day.

SEPA

Pay European suppliers, staff and partners

Send euros by SEPA from the same IBAN to any beneficiary in a SEPA country, without converting or routing through a bank at home.

SWIFT

Send money in Algeria

Algeria is not in SEPA: payments to accounts there go by SWIFT, in DZD or in euros.

Receiving euros by SWIFT from outside the SEPA area is not confirmed yet; ask us about your flows before you rely on it. Timings are typical, not guaranteed.

Converting to DZD and paying out in Algeria

Algerian dinar (DZD) is pay-out only: it is bought at the moment you pay and sent by SWIFT to a bank account in Algeria. It cannot be held, so keep your balance in euros until you pay. The exchange rate and fee are shown before you confirm.

The European Union is the Maghreb’s main trading partner, so much of the trade of a company in Algeria is priced in euros. A Lithuanian IBAN lets European customers pay you by SEPA, as they would a supplier in their own country, and lets you pay European suppliers from the same euro balance.

Questions

Can a company in Algeria get a EUR IBAN without a European company?
On our side, yes: Algeria is not on our list of countries we cannot serve, and you do not need a European subsidiary, branch or address. On your side, local exchange-control rules come first: a resident company may need authorisation from the Banque d’Algérie to hold an account abroad, and export proceeds must be repatriated within set deadlines. Check with the Banque d’Algérie and your bank before you apply. Onboarding has not opened yet; the waiting list is open.
How long does it take to get the IBAN?
The IBAN is typically issued within 48 hours of approval. Approval comes first: we review your company documents, ownership structure and expected payment flows, and how long that takes depends on how complete your file is and whether we need to ask follow-up questions. Once approved, you receive a 20-character Lithuanian IBAN starting with LT in your company’s name, which you can add to your invoices straight away. These timings are typical, not guaranteed.
How do European customers pay the IBAN?
By SEPA. The IBAN is Lithuanian, so it sits inside the SEPA area even though Algeria does not. A customer in Germany, France, Italy or any other SEPA country pays it as an ordinary euro transfer, typically arriving the same or next working day. It works in reverse too: you can pay suppliers, staff or partners in any SEPA country by SEPA from the IBAN. Receiving euros by SWIFT from outside the SEPA area, including from Algeria, is not confirmed yet, so ask us before you rely on it.
Can I convert the euros to Algerian dinar and pay out in Algeria?
Yes, as a pay-out. The Algerian dinar (DZD) can be paid out but not held: it is bought at the moment you pay and sent by SWIFT to a bank account in Algeria, so there is no DZD balance to manage. Keep your money in euros, or in one of the 35 currencies that can be held, until you pay. The rate and fee are shown before you confirm, and some payments need supporting documents, such as an invoice. Timings are typical, not guaranteed.
Algeria does not use the IBAN. Does that matter?
No. Algerian accounts are identified by the 20-digit RIB and the bank’s SWIFT/BIC code rather than an IBAN. Your TrillioniPay account has a full 20-character Lithuanian IBAN starting with LT, which is what European customers need to pay you by SEPA. When you send money to your own Algerian account, you use its RIB and the bank’s SWIFT code, and the payment goes by SWIFT. Give European customers the LT IBAN together with your company name exactly as it appears on the account and the BIC that comes with your account details.
Is TrillioniPay a bank?
No. Trillioni Pay Inc. is a Canadian money services business registered with FINTRAC and with the Bank of Canada under the Retail Payment Activities Act. It is not a bank. The EUR IBAN is provided through a regulated partner in Lithuania, and TrillioniPay runs the platform you use to receive, hold, convert and pay. Because the account sits in Lithuania, check how Algeria’s foreign-exchange rules apply to a resident company holding funds abroad before you apply.
