Expected: an Islamic holiday whose date depends on the moon sighting. The official announcement usually comes a day or two before and can move the date by a day.

What it means for payments
We pay out AED by SWIFT, and you can hold AED in your balance. When UAEFTS is closed, the beneficiary’s bank credits the payment on its next business day. Payments that pass through a US correspondent also wait for the Fedwire calendar.
The value date is the day the money is available to the beneficiary. A closing day on either side of a payment, sender’s or receiver’s, pushes it back. Timings are typical, never guaranteed.

- What is the settlement weekend for AED?
- Saturday and Sunday. UAEFTS does not settle on those days, so a payment released on them is processed on the next business day.
- Why are some AED holidays marked “Expected”?
- Islamic holidays follow the lunar calendar and are fixed by an official announcement after the moon sighting, usually a day or two before. Until then we show the astronomical estimate, which can move by a day. We switch the status to Confirmed once the announcement is out.
- What happens to AED payments on a bank holiday?
- It is accepted but not settled until the next day the clearing system is open, so the value date moves forward. Typical timings only; they are never guaranteed. The payment calendar tool works out the landing day for a corridor.
