How euros move in and out

SEPA

Receive from European customers

Customers in any SEPA country pay the LT IBAN as an ordinary euro transfer, typically arriving the same or next working day.

SEPA

Pay European suppliers, staff and partners

Send euros by SEPA from the same IBAN to any beneficiary in a SEPA country, without converting or routing through a bank at home.

SEPA

Send money in Romania

Romania is in SEPA, so euros to your own account there go by SEPA too.

Receiving euros by SWIFT from outside the SEPA area is not confirmed yet; ask us about your flows before you rely on it. Timings are typical, not guaranteed.

Romanian Leu (RON) is one of the 35 currencies you can hold. Convert euros to RON in the account when it suits you, keep a RON balance, and pay it to bank accounts in Romania by SWIFT. The exchange rate and fee are shown before you confirm.

Questions

Can a company in Romania get a EUR IBAN without a European company?
Yes. Romania is not on our list of countries we cannot serve, so a company registered there can apply, subject to KYB checks on the company, its directors and its owners. You do not need a European subsidiary, branch or address. The IBAN is Lithuanian, starts with LT and carries your company’s registered name, so European customers see exactly who they are paying. Onboarding has not opened yet: join the waiting list now and you will be invited to apply when it does.
How long does it take to get the IBAN?
The IBAN is typically issued within 48 hours of approval. Approval comes first: we review your company documents, ownership structure and expected payment flows, and how long that takes depends on how complete your file is and whether we need to ask follow-up questions. Once approved, you receive a 20-character Lithuanian IBAN starting with LT in your company’s name, which you can add to your invoices straight away. These timings are typical, not guaranteed.
How do European customers pay the IBAN?
By SEPA, like any European account. The IBAN is Lithuanian, and Romania is itself in the SEPA area, so customers there and in every other SEPA country pay it as an ordinary euro transfer, typically arriving the same or next working day. You can pay suppliers, staff and partners in any SEPA country the same way, including your own euro account in Romania. Receiving euros by SWIFT from outside the SEPA area is not confirmed yet, so ask us before you rely on it.
Can I convert the euros to Romanian Leu and pay out in Romania?
Yes. The Romanian Leu (RON) is one of the 35 currencies you can hold, so you can convert euros to RON in the account, keep a RON balance and pay it to bank accounts in Romania by SWIFT. The exchange rate and fee are shown before you confirm. You can also leave the money in euros and pay European suppliers by SEPA straight from the IBAN, converting only what you need to bring home. Some payments need supporting documents, such as an invoice.
Does the IBAN start with RO or LT?
LT. The account is held in Lithuania, so the IBAN starts with LT and is 20 characters long: LT, two check digits, a five-digit bank code and an eleven-digit account number. A local IBAN in Romania starts with RO and has 24 characters, so the two are easy to tell apart. Give European customers the LT IBAN together with your company name exactly as it appears on the account and the BIC that comes with your account details.
Is TrillioniPay a bank?
No. Trillioni Pay Inc. is a Canadian money services business registered with FINTRAC and with the Bank of Canada under the Retail Payment Activities Act. It is not a bank. The EUR IBAN is provided through a regulated partner in Lithuania, and TrillioniPay runs the platform you use to receive, hold, convert and pay. Onboarding has not opened yet, so there is a waiting list; you will be invited to apply when it opens.
