Virtual IBAN
An identifier that causes payments to be redirected to a payment account identified by a different IBAN. That is the definition the European Banking Authority uses, taken from the forthcoming EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (EBA/Rep/2024/08, May 2024, checked September 2026).
The mechanism is ordinary and banks have used it for decades, most often to give a corporate treasury a separate identifier per subsidiary over one underlying account.
What matters commercially is not that the identifier is virtual. It is whose name it is registered to. Details registered in your own company's name produce a name match when a European customer pays you. Details registered in a provider's name produce a mismatch warning on the payer's screen, which since October 2025 is shown before they confirm.
TrillioniPay uses the term "named account details" rather than "virtual IBAN", because the industry applies the second term to both arrangements.
